I. Jani-Ami

I paint in response to events of personal, or social, political, &/or historical importance. The references to these events is sometimes very clear and other times hidden within the work or expressed symbolically or in the titles. But if you don’t know these references are present, it is easy to overlook them entirely. Thus the sudden appearance of crowns within my florals was reference to the “Corona” virus and approaching pandemic.

The presence of a mysterious orb hints that something’s amiss in my floral THEODORA AND THE HOMELAND. And the use of the colors of smoke and fire littered with crystals hint that the AUSTRALIA GEM SERIES completed shortly before the Pandemic was about the fires ravaging the country and not its mineral wealth. I paint about things meaningful to me, so ultimately each work comes down to the same one thing - love. Love of animals, love of the land, love of freedom, love of country.
